Ready for Kindergarten Support Site

Ready for Kindergarten Online

In 2011, Maryland and Ohio were awarded Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grants from the U.S. Department of Education. Some of this funding culminated in the development of a new comprehensive early childhood assessment system that blends technology, assessment and professional development in unique ways. Ready for Kindergarten Online is the cornerstone of the new system. It puts into action school readiness indicators within developmental domains and provides information about what children are able to do as they transition into kindergarten. The system helps teachers identify the supports children need to be successful in school. Data is used to inform stakeholders, guide decision-making about professional development, and help teachers meet each student’s needs.

A number of project partners played vital roles in executing Maryland and Ohio’s shared vision for improving kindergarten readiness and early childhood assessment including the Johns Hopkins University Center for Technology in Education (CTE), WestEd, State Advisory Boards in each state, and a national Technical Advisory Committee, facilitated by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

We invite you to engage educators and other professionals in conversations about the importance of early childhood education initiatives and learn more about this exciting opportunity to impact the lives of young children and families.

Funding for this site and the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment App was provided by a U.S. Department of Education Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant.
